Virgil Floyd Ashley, Sr. was born September 30, 1927 in Webb, LA to the union of his parents, Floyd P. Ashley and Bereniece Hardy Ashley, and he passed from this life April 27, 2020 at his home in Aimwell, LA. Virgil was a member of New Life Pentecostal Church in Manifest. He loved his church, his church family and worshiping his Lord. He worked hard all his life. He was a knowledgeable craftsman who could build, fix, or design anything. He loved traveling to Wyoming where he spent hours riding on horseback, enjoying the beautiful mountain views. He enjoyed hunting and fishing also. Virgil loved his family. Spending time with his children and grandchildren was the highlight of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Erlene Ashley, son Christopher Lee Ashley, Sr., grandchildren: Christopher Lee Ashley, Jr., Timothy Shane Ashley, Jessica Erlene Ashley and Kimberly Cotten, brother Alton Ashley and sisters: Audrey Tolson and Mary Mildred Ashley. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Francis Randall Ashley, children: Virgil Ashley, Jr., Barbara Hollis, Jeannie Cotten, Bernessia Lhamon (Scott), Wayne Ashley (Leisha), Jason Ashley (Evgeniya), David W. Poole (Frances), Glynn Poole (Tammie) and Sandy Goodman (Charles); sisters: Phyllis Parker and Bobbie Wise; twenty-nine grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be held for Mr. Ashley at 11 AM, Friday, May 1, 2020 at Harris Cemetery, Crowville, LA with Rev. David Poole and Rev. Danny Davis officiating. Services are under the direction of Riser Funeral Home, Columbia.
