Shelby H. Loe Sr.

Oct 8, 1936 — Jul 5, 2026

Tullos

Shelby Harold Loe Sr., age 89, of Tullos, Louisiana, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 6, 2026, at his home surrounded by the place and people he loved. He was born on October 8, 1936, in Bear Creek, Louisiana, to Glen D. Loe and Mavis Rich Loe.

Shelby lived a full and faithful life centered on God, his family, and the simple joys that made life worth living. He was the owner and operator of his own oil business for most of his life and was well respected throughout the oil and gas industry. He was also active in local and state politics, often advocating for the oil and gas community he loved. Before beginning his career, he attended Northwestern State University, where he often joked that he lacked only one class to earn his degree in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting because he had already learned everything he needed and didn't need a piece of paper to prove it.

More than anything, Shelby was a man of deep faith. He was a member of Olla Methodist Church and Tullos First Baptist Church, and faithfully worshiped at Parham's Baptist Church whenever he and DeeDee were at their beloved camp on Black River Lake. He read his Bible every day and believed that the greatest legacy he could leave was an example of a life lived for Christ. His greatest desire was that his children, grandchildren, and generations to come would know the Lord and live their lives with the same faith that guided his own.

His family was the greatest blessing of his life. Shelby often said he considered himself one of the richest men in the world—not because of what was in his wallet, but because of the family God had given him. Nothing made him happier than gathering everyone together, laughing, telling stories, and making memories that would last a lifetime.

His greatest earthly love was his wife of 71 years, Dorris Lane "DeeDee" Collins Loe. Their love story began with love at first sight and continued every day thereafter. Shelby found great joy in caring for DeeDee and making sure she was happy. Their 71st wedding anniversary will be celebrated on the day of his funeral—a fitting reminder of a lifetime spent loving one another.

Shelby believed life was meant to be enjoyed. He loved quail, squirrel, and duck hunting and enjoyed fishing, especially at Black River Lake where he kept his boat house full of yo-yos ready for the next fishing trip. He was an accomplished water skier who could barefoot ski and even carry children on his shoulders while skiing. He took great pride in teaching countless family members and friends to ski, and many grandchildren can remember not being allowed back to camp until they finally got up on skis—even if darkness had already fallen.

He was an avid golfer who enjoyed the fellowship and laughter with friends every bit as much as the game itself. As a young man, he showed Tennessee Walking Horses in numerous competitions. He found peace on a tractor, behind a lawn mower, or bush hogging a field, even though his family often joked that whenever he announced he was going to mow, everyone became nervous because something was probably about to get torn up. He loved creating beautiful stained-glass pieces and stepping stones, always finding another project to keep his hands busy.

Shelby was affectionately called Shot, Dad, Big Shelby, and mostly Pap. He was known for his quick wit, his practical jokes, and his ability to make people laugh. He never met a stranger, loved giving friends and family a hard time, and if you drove a Ford onto his hill, you could count on hearing about it. He remained a proud Chevrolet man until his final day. His competitive spirit never faded, especially behind the wheel of his Suburban, where every trip became an opportunity to beat his previous travel time. He truly lived life with enthusiasm, humor, and gratitude.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Dorris Lane "DeeDee" Collins Loe; his children, Theresa "Teacy" Lasiter (Tim), DeLane Harris, Penny Normand, Holly Allen (Chris), and Shelby Loe II (Jennifer); his grandsons, Justin Lasiter (Mary), Jeffrey Lasiter (Jessica), Jerrod Douglas, Carl Thomas "Tom" Douglas (Alyson), Kendall Normand (Lauren), and Dustin Boyette (Ariel); his granddaughters, Ashley L. Andrews, Dixie Bardwell (Darin), Logan Wester (Wesley), and Amber Spratt; his great-grandchildren, Lexi Jo, Luke, Laney, and Lillie "Birdie" Lasiter; Vivian and Victoria Lasiter; Ashton Andrews-Poche', Aaron Whitehead, Alaina W. Barnhill (Kyle), Collin, Shelby Jean, and Bodie Douglas; Landon Long; Josh and Kaston Bardwell; Gabby and Sophie Spratt; and Finley and Rowan Wester. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Betty C. Davis, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen D. Loe and Mavis Rich Loe; his sisters, Glenda Loe Bourgeois and Billie Dale Loe; his son-in-law, Ricky Harris; and his brother-in-law, Jerry Davis; and grandchildren Alaina, Adam, and Reese Andrews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Olla Methodist Church beginning at 1:00 PM with funeral services to follow at 2:00 PM with Bro. Scott Smith and Bro. Scott Cunningham officiating. Graveside Services will be Olla Cemetery with Brother Toney Ganey officiating.

While Shelby will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort knowing he has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." His faith was his foundation, his family was his greatest treasure, and the memories he leaves behind will continue to bring smiles, laughter, and gratitude for generations to come.
