Sarah Wheeler Jones, 75, passed away on June 17, 2026. She was born in Rayville, Louisiana, on January 23, 1951, to Freddie "Jack" Wheeler and Lethey Wheeler, both of whom preceded her in death.
Sarah is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years, Gary Jones, and her son, Lance Fife (Amy). She is also survived by her sister, Fredericka Lowery (Roy, deceased); nephew, Caleb Lowery (Julia), Niece, Sarah Lowery. Sarah leaves behind her beloved grandson, Will Fife, as well as her stepson, John Jones (Leanna); step-grandchildren, Kaylea McCarty (Dylan) and Keagan Jones; and two step great-granddaughters, Opal and Elsie McCarty.
Sarah graduated from Mangham High School and the University of Louisiana Monroe (then NLU) with a degree in Home Economics. She spent her career as a dedicated public school teacher, working in early childhood, elementary education, deaf education, and gifted and talented programs, as well as serving as a reading instruction coach. She taught in Monroe City School System, later at Haynesville Elementary, and finished her career at Poland Junior High and Caroline Dorman Junior High. She was widely respected as a highly effective educator who stayed connected with many former students and their families.
A woman of strong Christian faith, Sarah devoted her later years to studying the Bible and could quote scripture from memory. She shared daily Bible verses with her son and guided her husband in his spiritual growth.
Sarah was a faithful supporter of Samaritan's Purse, and the family requests donations be made to the charity in her memory in lieu of flowers.
Pallbearers will be Caleb Lowery, Will Fife, Cade McClannahan, Brad Thompson, John David Jones, and Dylan McCarty.
