We come to celebrate the life of Jimmie Rural Adams, Sr. of Hebert, LA. Jimmie was 93 years old and was born October 2, 1931, in Columbia, LA. He was raised in Newellton, LA and was the oldest of six children. Newellton is also where he met and married his first wife, Edith.
Jimmie fought in the Korean War and received the Purple Heart. After the war, Jimmie and Edith lived and raised their children in Newellton. He and his brother Roy once owned and operated the ESSO Station. Later he began working at the Newellton Elevator Company as a building contractor/ general manager.
Jimmie was a sports enthusiast. He coached his sons in little league baseball and enjoyed
watching them play football. He was a master bowler and participated in tournaments all over the US.
When Jimmie’s wife Edith passed away, he became a student at NLU and graduated with a degree in education. He graduated from Newellton High School as valedictorian, and this is where he began his teaching and coaching career as the head football coach. From here he moved to Oak Grove High School and then to Caldwell Parish High School eventually becoming the Sparton’s head football coach.
Caldwell Parish High School is where he met a sweet little English teacher named Joyce Stamper Bartlett. They married June 12, 1988. Jimmie became part of the Stamper family in Hebert, LA, and Joyce became the grandmother to a whole passel of kids.
Jimmie lived life to the fullest and was active in numerous activities. Many years ago, he started a country music band called the Tensas Boys where he sang and played lead guitar. He participated in the Senior Olympics and has won numerous gold medals. While in the army he was a Golden Gloves Boxer. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing, especially fishing during his later years. He was a Gideon and spoke in numerous churches in Louisiana and surrounding states.
Jimmie was a former member of First Baptist Church in Newellton. He is presently a member of Boeuf River Worship Center ( formerly Woolen Lake Church of God) and was a member of the praise team. More than anything else in life, Jimmie loved our Lord Jesus Christ and worked hard trying to lead others to have a relationship with Jesus.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Terwilleger Adams, his parents, Emmett L. and Annie Lewis Roy Adams, his brothers; Roy, Joe, Emmett (Sally), and Billy Ray, brother-in-law, Lowell Brannen, his in-laws; Floyd and Maggie Terwilleger and Shorty and Edna Stamper, Anna Godwin (Bud) and brothers-in-law: Bud Luckett and Clarence Yuin (carol).
Left to cherish his memory are is wife, Joyce Stamper (Bartlett) Adams, daughter, Donna Kay Ashley (Dell) of Sterlington, LA, sons; Jimmie Rural Adams, Jr. (Mary) of Bossier City, LA, Mike Wayne Adams (Karen) of Rome, GA, Tim Alan Adams (Mary) of Amite, LA, Brian Adams of Texas, daughter-in-law, Leah Adams of Newellton, LA, stepson, Steve Bartlett of New Braunfels, Texas; stepdaughter, Karen Blaes ( Rick)of Columbus, Ohio, sister, Helen Luckett of Mangham, LA, sisters-in-law; Judy Adams of Monroe, LA, Janis Brannen of Hebert, LA, Joanne Lowery (Jerry) of West Monroe, LA, Jeanie Duchesne (Jeff) of Hebert, LA . and special friend, Mackie Duchesne of Hebert, LA. Jimmie has 17 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren plus numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Pastor Marty Earnest and Pastor Joseph Ashley will be officiating the service.at 11:00 am Wednesday October 30, 2024 at the Chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, LA, Interment will follow at the Woolen Lake Cemetery under direction of Riser & Son Funeral Home of Columbia. The Adams Family will receive visitors at Riser Funeral Home on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until time of service.
Pallbearers: Grandsons; Joseph Ashley, Jim Adams, Jacob Ashley, Brett Adams, Garrett Adams, Michael Adams, Chandler Adams
Honorary pallbearers include Eric Sevin, Kyle Carter, Matthew Allen and Josh Corrigan.
The Adams Family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Allegiance Hospice and Dr. Russell Cummings and the entire staff of Citizens Medical Center in Columbia for the gracious love and compassion extended to Jimmie during his last days. May God bless you all.
