Robert Lafayette Washam

Memorial services for Robert Washam will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Bethany Baptist Church, Hebert, Louisiana with Bro. Don Wright officiating. The family will receive visitors from 10 AM until 11 AM prior to the service. Arrangements under the direction of Riser and Son Funeral Home, Columbia.

Robert Lafayette Washam was born in Hebert, Louisiana, on February 11, 1940, to the union of his parents, Hughell B. Washam and Dorotha Vestal Washam, and he passed to his heavenly home on Sunday, April 21, 2024, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents; all his siblings: Jim Clyde Washam, Bonnie Washam Cox, and Bennie Edward Washam; and his son-in-law, Donald Wayne Wallace. Robert was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a farmer and he loved working the land. He also drove a log truck for a while and served as a deputy with the CaIdwell Parish Sheriff's Department. His love for the land went beyond farming, as he was an avid gardener. For many years he fed his family, many friends, and his local community with the bountiful vegetables he grew. His greatest love was his family. Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was loved and will be missed so much. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nellie McGuire Washam; his children: Robert Layne Washam (Rhonda); Cheryl Washam Darden (Deno); Michael Glen Washam (Lori), Angela Washam Wallace, and Jennifer Washam Beckley (Tyron); grandchildren: Benjamin Washam (Cindi), Jarrod Wallace (Ashley), Slade Darden, Jacob Wallace (Rebecca), Victoria Anderson (Phillip), Kimberly Maxwell (J.T.), Sydney Parr (Cody), Lauren Messer (James), and Zachery Beckley (Haley); as well as, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members.
