Rebecca Ann Stapleton was born November 19, 1958, in Dallas, Texas to the union of her parents, William Lloyd Smith and Betty Joe Connolly Smith Demoney, and she passed from this life September 12, 2021, at her home in Columbia after a brave battle with cancer. She was a jack-of-all-trades and, along with her family, raised cows, goats, and chickens. She loved animals. Becky worked tirelessly at the Caldwell Watchman for 32 years. She is probably the only person who can say they sold advertising from a hospital bed at M.D. Anderson. She was selfless and dedicated her whole being to everything she did. It was evident to all who knew her that she loved her customers, her community, and she loved life. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2011 and has fought it ever since with everything she had. When she was too tired to fight for herself, she fought it for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life, her number one focus, and her reason for living. Her family was everything to her and once you were a part of her family, you were always a part of her family. She was much loved and will be truly missed by so many.

Becky was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Charles Grover Smith and Annie Lloyd Browning Smith; maternal grandparents, James Sanford Connolly and Elizabeth M McKenney Connolly; her father, William Lloyd Smith; sister, Sandy Jackson; and brother, Mike Smith.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Daniel Lee Stapleton; her mother, Betty Smith Demoney; children: Diana Furr (Mike), Bubba Stapleton (Jessica), Bridgett Maxwell (Jason), and Dusty Stapleton (Mary Beth); sister, Susan West (T. Mellen); brother, Bill Smith (Laura); grandchildren: Marah McCranie (Chris), Kurstin Stapleton (Austin), Rowdy Stapleton (Keri), Lakota “Little Man” Stapleton (Bailey), Lizzie Maxwell, A. J. Maxwell, Colton Stapleton, Baylee Stapleton, Kaston Stapleton, Dallas Maxwell, Kayden Stapleton, and Haddox Stapleton (arriving in October); great-grandchildren: Hunter Carr, Bryson McCranie, Koltlee McCranie, Jasa Ireland, and Weston Stapleton; along with special friends: Randy and Liz Hatten, Penny Brown, Cindy Slay, and Judith Ann McKee.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bubba Stapleton, Lakota “Little Man” Stapleton, Jason Maxwell, A. J. Maxwell, Dusty Stapleton, Austin Ireland, Michael Hand, and Tucker Hand. Honorary pallbearers are Rowdy Stapleton, Zack Beckley, and Cody Coghlan.

Any planned memorials may be made to Pilots for Patients or the American Cancer Society branch in Monroe.
