Obie Edward Jones

Obie Edward Jones peacefully went to be with the Lord on December 16, 2023, at the age of 65. Funeral services will be held at Riser Funeral Home in Olla, Louisiana, on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 12:00 pm with Bro. Bobby Wilson officiating.  A visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at Riser Funeral Home in Olla, Louisiana, immediately prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at the family plot at Good Hope Cemetery in Kelly, Louisiana, under the direction of Riser Funeral Home.

He is preceded in passing by his loving parents, Roland Stanford Jones and Mary Best Jones.

Obie was born on September 4, 1958, in Columbia, Louisiana. Soon after, his family moved to Urania, Louisiana.  Obie lived in many places in his lifetime but always spoke fondly about his childhood and growing up in his beloved hometown of Urania and the people he knew there. He was truly a unique and special individual.  He had a trail of close friends from Louisiana and Texas. He possessed a profound ability to forge strong friendships with everyone he met.  Those who knew him didn’t just like Obie, they loved him. 

Obie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life.  He was a lifelong diehard fan of LSU Tiger football and would talk about his team with you for hours.  He loved to go riding in the car and go to the nearest Walmart.  No matter where he went, it was astonishing and so heartwarming to see so many people approach Obie, say hi to him and give him a loving embrace.  It seemed as though he knew everyone and everyone knew Obie.  He enjoyed watching wrestling on TV, listening to country music, eating his favorite food (a hamburger) at the local restaurant, and the pleasure of smoking his cigarettes and drinking his Dr. Pepper.

Those left to cherish the great blessing of Obie in their lives are his brother, Dennis Jones and wife Debbie (Nedbalek) Jones, Obie’s nieces Jennifer Crowley (Mark) and Allison Merchant (Sameer), Debbie’s sisters Wanda Drazer (Jerry) and Joyce Freeman, great nephews and nieces: Isaiah, Silas, Alyssa, Isabella, Jesse, Lexi, Bodhi, Ezra, and Ajay, as well as countless close friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Corley, Gary Wilson, James Douglas, Glen Henderson, Mark Crowley, Mark Fletcher, and Sameer Merchant.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas, Jessica with AccentCare Hospice and the staff at the many facilities Obie resided in his lifetime.
