Norman Lee Coates

Funeral services for Norman Lee Coates, age 73, of Grayson, will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 5, 2016 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Jim McKeithen officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fellowship Cemetery west of Columbia.

Norman was born October 8, 1943 to the union of Henry and Emma Kelly Coates in Columbia and he passed from this life on January 2, 2017 at his residence in Grayson.

He served his country in the Army for 4 years. He was a diesel and welding machine mechanic for 50 years. He was an avid deer ,duck, and squirrel hunter and then he enjoyed feeding the animals. That was his way of giving back to the outdoors that he loved so much.

He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Elly Coates, Elby Coates, Elvis Coates, Leola Williams, Russell Coates, and Elver Coates.

He is survived by his wife of over 52 years: Barbara Coates of Grayson; son: Landry Coates and his wife Monica of Grayson; daughters: Cathy Washington and her husband Michael of Columbia; Chelette Harris and her husband Jackie of Kelly; grandchildren: Tasha Robertson, Casey Franklin, Kristin Washington, Kayla Leggett, Bailey and Lindsey Coates, Nick Harris, and Haley Barnett; great-grandchild: Parker Robertson.
