The following is the Eulogy/ Obituary provided by her loving family.

We are gathered today to celebrate the life of Mary Elizabeth Poole. Mary was born on May 27, 1938 to the union of Ivan Clyde and Ethel Belle Greene and she passed from this life on November 7, 2025 at the Haven Nursing Center in Columbia, LA. She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 plus years Howard C. Poole, grandsons Raphael Trahan and Duncan Howard Childress, sons Gary Poole, Tommy Poole and Stephen Briscoe. Left to remember Mary and her life are Janey Saul (Michael), Charles Poole (Debbie), Dianne Childress (Tony), Paul Briscoe (Dee), daughter-in-law Reba Briscoe (wife of Stephen), and brothers Ivan Greene (Joy) and Tom Greene (Annie), sister-in-law Elnora Huddleston, as well as a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary had a career path that started with a degree in library science from Northeast Louisiana University or ULM as it is now known. She spent a few years teaching school, then a long career at the Caldwell Parish Library. She drove the book mobile and eventually became librarian. Mary’s passion for reading books and magazines helped her speak knowledgeably regarding many subjects and she loved to speak with all that came in the library. Mary also loved her grandchildren and especially loved to sit and read to them trying to inspire their imaginations and the love of reading. Mary loved serving her community and her Savior. She taught Sunday school, Bible school and sang in the choir with a lovely soprano voice. She was a member of Sandy Bayou Baptist church then moved to Kelly Baptist church and while at the Haven she attended church services there as well. For the last several years Mary lived at the Haven where she made many friends and enjoyed sitting in her room with the door open. She could read “keep and eye” on the hall to see who was “coming and going”. She loved visitors and kept candy, especially chocolate to share with anyone that came by her room. Mary will be missed by her community, friends and family but we rest assured that she had a reunion in heaven with loved ones and most of all her savior, Jesus.

Mary’s family would like to thank the staff of the Haven for all the care and consideration they gave her in her last years. A special thanks to Bro Joe Aguillard for officiating Mary’s home-going celebration.

Pallbearers- Lynn Briscoe, Tony Childress, Blake Wyles, Joshua Briscoe, Marcus Briscoe, and Joseph Briscoe
