Services for Larry Gene Parker, age 60 of Columbia, will be 2 PM Wednesday, June 25, 2008 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Charles Lutrick and Rev. Marvin Tabora officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 24, 2008 from 5 PM to 9 PM at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia. Mr. Parker was born in Monroe to the union of Mike Sr. and Ova Colvin Parker on January 9, 1948 and passed away at Minden Medical Center on Sunday, June 22, 2008. He was a minister with the Church of Gad faith and sat on the Louisiana State Youth Board. He pastored several churches throughout Louisiana retiring from Woolen Lake Church of God. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict having served in the Army. He received several awards for service and valor including the Distinguished Flying Cross and Purple Heart. He worked as a deputy with the Caldwell Parish Sheriff's Office and the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mike Parker, Jr. Survivors include his wife of 31 years; Helen Harris Parker of Columbia, daughter; Tina Steele and her husband, Jim of Columbia, three sisters; Lorra Raine Maxwell and her husband, George of Vidalia, Gracie Alexander and her husband, Ben of Pineville and Brenda Lavine of Pineville, two brothers; Bob Parker and Jerry Parker both of Colfax, two grandchildren; Savannah Elizabeth Steele and Jesse James Steele both of Columbia. Pallbearers will be deputies with the Caldwell Parish Sheriff's Office. Honorary pallbearers are Guycell Thompson and Ben Alexander.
