Funeral services for Joyce Lynn Holloman Long, age 84, of Olla will be held 3:00 PM Friday September 11, 2026 from the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Olla with Bro. Woody Rimes Officiating and acknowledging Bro. Johnny Phillips and Bro. Dennis Baker.  Interment will follow in the Olla Cemetery with services under the direction of Riser & Son Funeral Home of Olla. The Long Family will receive visitors on Friday at the church from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM.

Joyce Lynn passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 6, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. 

She was born in 1941 in Urania, Louisiana. Her life was defined by her love for her family, friends, and her joy in Christ.

Joyce Lynn graduated from LaSalle High School in Olla, Louisiana and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Louisiana Tech University in 1963. Professionally, she taught school for over 23 years, primarily 6th grade at Urania Elementary, Olla Elementary and LaSalle Junior High School. She also served on the LaSalle Parish Library Board.

She married her high school sweetheart, Don Rogers Long in 1962. They had three sons, William, David, and Chris. After brief stints in Shreveport and Dallas, the family moved to Lafayette. In 1979, they moved back to Olla where she lived until her passing.

Joyce Lynn was an active member of East Bayou Baptist Church in Lafayette and Olla First Baptist Church. She loved singing in the choir and quietly serving wherever she was needed. She had a special calling to disciple and mentor young women. She taught young women’s Sunday School classes for many years. She prayed unceasingly for others and shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with so many, even in her final months.

She loved her high school classmates and always looked forward to their reunions. She enjoyed visiting antique stores, flea markets, and shopping with her friends, especially her dear friend Lynda Comeaux.

Above all, Joyce Lynn loved and served her family. She adored her parents, children, grandchildren, and great grandson. She was kind, gentle, wise, and loyal in ways that words cannot adequately express.

Joyce Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, WH “Doc” and Joyce Hollman, and former husband Don Rogers Long.

She is survived by her sons, William Long (Amy), David Long (Michelle), Chris Long (Susan); Former husband Ronald Holcomb; nine grandchildren, Rebecca Long, Brittney Miller (Jackson), Torrey Long, Andrea Thomas (Dusty), Harrison Long (EmilyClaire), Haidyn Simmons (Stephen), Nicolas Long, Jackson Long, Tessa Long; and great grandson Liam Thomas.

Serving as pallbearers are Steve Richardson, Mark Richardson, Herman McCarty, Joel Sims, Darrel Whittington, Bart McGuffee, and honorary pallbearer Danny Comeaux.

Joyce Lynn’s favorite bible verse was John 3:16:

“For God so loved that world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
