Joy Cynthia Fore Nugent

Funeral Services for "Mama Joy" will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, September 6, 2026 at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, Louisiana with interment following in Welcome Home Cemetery under the direction of Riser Funeral Home. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 PM until 2:00.

Joy Cynthia Fore Nugent was born July 10, 1950, to Joe Westley and Sybil Honeycutt Fore in Columbia, Louisiana. She passed from this life  September 4, 2026, at her home in Grayson, Louisiana, surrounded by her family after a brief illness.

She is survived by her two children, son, Joey Nugent (Stephanie) and daughter Kristi Nugent (Katie); four grandchildren, Derrick, Peyton, Parker, and Karter Joy; her brother, Benny Fore. and her best friend, Dianne Pitre.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Billy Joe Fore; and daughter, Stacy Nugent Rials.

Joy was a graduate of Woodham High School in Pensacola, Florida, and attended Pensacola Junior College before moving to Grayson, Louisiana, where she briefly worked as a dispatcher for the Caldwell Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Joy spent 41 years of her life raising her three children and one grandchild. While doing so, she was also a CNA, working for the State of Louisiana, Caldwell Memorial Hospital, and Caldwell Correctional Center.

Summers in the ’80s and ’90s were always spent at the ballpark, having three children who were always involved with school and summer sports. She garnered a host of bonus kids who lovingly referred to her as “Mama Joy,” and they still do to this day.

If you asked Joy to have someone write one line about her whole life, she wouldn’t want achievements or a list. She would want this: She was their mother. She showed up, and she never once wished she’d been anything else.

The family would like to thank the caring staff of the Winters Clinic, Caldwell Memorial Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, and Ascend Hospice. Special thanks to close family friend Fawn Hutto and Aunt Carolyn Rogers.

Pallbearers will be Peyton Nugent, Derrick Rials, Jason Griffin, Jeremy Gainous, Gabe Hixson, and Michael Joe Hixson.
