Joseph Lamar Lisenby was born February 22, 1959, in Port Sulphur, LA to the union of his parents, James Earnest "Jeep" Lisenby and Maggie Elizabeth Lee "Liz" Lisenby, and he entered into to rest June 1, 2024. He was taken from this world way to soon. His passing was sudden and unexpected.
Joey had the title of "Pops" by his closest family, and "Big Joey" to anyone else that had the pleasure to know him. He worked in the oilfield his whole life. From the dirt roads of the Tullos oilfields, to the gulf of Mexico where he retired. Big Joey enjoyed making his loops up the hill whether he was visiting family and friends or checking the water at castor creek. You could always find him outside "piddlin" around the house as he would call it. When the water got high you could find him setting out his hoop nets and picking them up when the water got low. When the leaves started turning brown, you could catch him with a rifle in his truck next to him. Now whether it was shot out of the truck or out of the stand, you never knew. Big Joey was a music connoisseur. He loved music and enjoyed listening to it wherever he was. You could always catch him front row at a concert, no matter who was playing or how many people were there. Big Joey enjoyed watching races of anything on four wheels. He was always taking pictures and videos of anything and everything he could. A collector of all things material, he could never let anyone throw anything away. Some would say he had a green thumb. If you ever showed up to his house throughout the year, you'd always find multiple gardens planted and an abundance of plants all around his place. He loved having cookouts and get togethers with family and friends, whether it was roasting a hog or frying fish. Big Joey never met a stranger and always met you with a smile. But most of all, he loved his children dearly and his grandchildren even more.
Big Joey was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Billy Lisenby; his sister, Pam Grant; his uncle, Bubba Lisenby; and his cousins, Wesley Lisenby and Gary Lisenby. Those left to cherish his memory are his life partner, Dana Butler; his kids, Lil Joey Lisenby (Mandi), Max Lisenby, Kendrah Knight; his brothers, Jeffery Lisenby, Jackie Lisenby (Ginger), Johnny Lisenby (Vicki); grandchildren, Jase Lisenby, Jaxen Lisenby, Josie Lisenby, Kennedy Stamper, and Hadley Stamper; his bonus grandchildren, Gabe Butler, Charlie Butler, Gunner Butler, Madi Butler; the mother of his children, Linda Lisenby; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
