Funeral services for John Earl Lewis, age 69, of Columbia will be held 11:00 AM Saturday April 20, 2024 from the sanctuary of Brownville Baptist Church with Taro Autman, JR delivering the Eulogy and Bro. Jim Hearns bringing forth the New Testament and the Old Testament. The Lewis Family will receive visitors on Friday April 19, 2024 at the Riser & Son Funeral Home located at 7131 U S Highway 165, Columbia. Visitation times are from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Interment with full Military Honors will follow immediately at the Oakley Cemetery at Gilbert, LA.
Mr. Lewis was a United States Veteran having served in the Army National Guard. He was extremely proud of his service and inspired others to follow in his footsteps. John was one of sixteen siblings that was born to the union of his parents, the late Simmie Lewis and Magnolia Evans Lewis on September 27, 1954, at Wisner, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by, in addition to his parents, three sisters: Simmie Mae Autman, Vera Mae Martin, Dorothy Marie Byas and four brothers: Charles Edward Lewis, James Kelly Lewis, Leroy Lewis and Joe Henry Lewis.
He was an active member of Brownville Baptist Church and St. Paul Baptist Church; also the American Legion and the Louisiana Sheriffs Honorary Membership program. Mr. Lewis was involved in the trucking industry for most of his life. He was a devoted family man and was loved by all who knew him.
Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are two daughters Rose Dixon and Jacquetta Carter (Keith); one brother: Jessie Dee Lewis and seven sisters: Eloise Emmerson, Betty Sue Lewis, Carolyn Ann Scott, Alice Faye Lewis, Jeanette Lewis, Elaine Curry and Hazel Jean Lewis. His beloved grandchildren: LaDonte McAfee, Jacqasia McAfee, Malasia McAfee, Dominic McAfee, Nicholas Duncan, Gregory Jones, JR, Aerial Jordan and Allyson Kettley
Serving as pallbearers will be Willie Moran, Wylie Canada, Fred Broadnax, Rickey Dixon, Calvin Dixon, Roderick Rankin, Matthew Dixon, Curtis Wooten and Dennis Mollique. Honorary pallbearers include Gregory Jones, JR, Jerome Byas, Travis Lewis, Aaron Elliott and Curtis Byas.
