John Thomas Boyd

Funeral services for John Thomas Boyd, age 84 of Columbia, will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, January 19, 2022, from the chapel of Riser and Son Funeral Home, Columbia, with Bro. Shane Duke officiating. Interment will follow at Fellowship Cemetery, Columbia. The family will have a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, from 5 PM until 8 PM.

John Thomas Boyd was born in Columbia, LA on October 10, 1937, to the union of his parents, Joseph Thomas Boyd, Jr. and Vernice Kilby Boyd, and he passed from this life to his heavenly home on Monday, January 17, 2022, at Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters: Sybil Strickland and Frances Boyd; bother, Jody Boyd; and his in-laws, Charlie and Mona Campbell. Anyone knowing John Thomas knew he was a good man who loved Jesus. He loved to tell others about Jesus and always put Jesus first in his life. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He was a school bus driver for 14 years and a farmer his entire life. He loved farming and everything about farming, especially John Deere tractors. He enjoyed working on tractors when he wasn’t driving one. John Thomas loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a good husband, father, and grandfather who was dearly loved and he will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 62 years, Peggy Campbell Boyd; his children: Melinda Ballard (Seburn), Diane May (Mark), Michael Thomas Boyd (Charlotte), Tammie Bates (Michael Joe), and Amanda McKenney (Paul); brothers: David Boyd, Troy Boyd (Marie) and C.H. Boyd (Debbie); sisters-in-law, Elvia Boyd and Betty Campbell; grandchildren: Leanne Wallace (Scottie), Travis Ballard (Katie), Treena Jones (Jarrod), Lanee Cotten (Robert), Ashley Wallace (Jarrod), Malory May, Dylan Boyd (Simmi), Seth Murray, Max Bates, Jacob McKenney, Caryn McKenney, and Ethan McKenney; great-grandchildren: Abbie Wallace, Jordan Jones, Porter Wallace, Nolan Jones, Stella Ballard, Freddie Jones, Addison Cotten, Hanna Cotten, Rylan Wallace, Presley Wallace, Avery Cotten, Jackson Wallace, and Layton Boyd; one great-great-grandchild, Maddox Reitzell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be family members. Honorary pallbearers are David Boyd, Troy Boyd, C.H. Boyd, Sherry Kenney, and Ricky Dixon.
