Funeral services for Jessie Quincy "Buddy" James, age 91 of Columbia, will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the chapel of Riser and Son Funeral Home, Columbia, LA, with Bro. Shane Duke officiating. Interment will follow at Old Bethel Cemetery, Clarks, LA. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Buddy was born on February 13, 1935, in Columbia, LA, to the union of his parents, Jessie Brown James and Beulah Franklin James. He passed from this life, surrounded by his loved ones, on July 21, 2026, in Jonesville, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Ethel Taylor James; his son, Jessie Edward "Ed" James, Sr.; brothers: Earl Franklin, T.J. James, and Malcolm "Mannyboy" James; sisters: Tina Robehned, Gail Nealy, Jackie Hatten, and Leola James.
Buddy and Ethel were members of Holum Baptist Church until her health and later his, prevented them from attending. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years. He could drive and fix anything but his specialty was doing dozer work. He enjoyed tending to his cows and working on his land. He loved family get-togethers and hosting his well attended fish fries. Buddy was a good friend to all. He never met a stranger and always had a hug for you.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Vicky Denison (Denny); brothers, Wayne James (Aline) and Huey Bayles (Carolyn); six grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
