Funeral services for Jerry Strickland, age 74 of Columbia, will be held at 2 PM, Friday, February 18, 2022, at the chapel of Riser Funeral Home, Columbia with Bro. Shane Duke officiating and Ronnie McIlwain assisting. Interment will follow at Cross Roads Cemetery, Grayson, LA. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday, from 1 PM until time of service at 2 PM.
Jerry Lynn Strickland was born July 6, 1947, in Columbia, LA to the union of his parents, Malloy Dick Strickland and Katie Bell Enterkin Strickland, and he passed from this life February 15, 2022, at University Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Jerry was a hard worker and he worked all his life. He enjoyed working in his yard, keeping things neat and clean. Any time he went to Mac's it always took a while because he loved to visit with the employees. He was known for making biscuits and tomato gravy and he enjoyed wood-working. He loved to travel and as soon as he got home from one adventure he was planning the next one. Jerry always looked forward to Sunday dinners at church. He loved his family and spending time with family and friends was what he loved and enjoyed most. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Chad Strickland; brothers: Maloy "Red" Strickland, Harold "Peaches" Strickland, and Roy Glenn Strickland; and sister, Ethel Dyer.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patsy Whittington Strickland; daughter, Christie Myers (husband, Carl); son, Jeremy Strickland (wife, LaKasha); stepsons: DeWayne Scott (wife, Janelle), Mitch Scott (fiance', Melissa Shipp), and Mark Scott; brothers: Robert Strickland (wife, Betty), Jacob Strickland (wife, Deannie), and Huel Strickland (wife, Maxine); sisters: Rita Dyer (husband, Bob) and Trissie Strickland; grandchildren: Kelsi Thompson (Taylor), Christopher and Kaley Jordan, Peyton, Bella, and Bass Strickland, Sarah Myers, Erin and Cari Scott, Chelsea Hitt (Devin), and Jordan McKaskle; great-grandchildren: Kayson and Bryson Jordan, Chase and Sawyer Thompson, Zayden Jordan, Zoey Maddison, Ronni Warner, and a new one coming in April - Axton Hitt; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael "Big D" Scott, Mitch Scott, Jimmy Dale Young, Stoney Young, Dwight Rogers, and Christopher Jordan. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Scott, Peyton Strickland, Bob Dyer, and Sonny Dyer.
