James Quincey “Jimmy” Strickland of Hebert, La passed from this earth Aug 17, 2026. He was born in Monroe on Nov 8, 1957 to Alice Carson and Quinton Strickland. They and his only brother, John preceded him in death. Jimmy’s closest and dearest surviving relative is John’s son, Judson (Katelynn). What brought Jimmy the greatest pleasure the last three years of his life was their daughter, Oakleigh, his great niece. He cherished her and would light up when he spoke her name. He wanted everyone to know how much she was the ‘spitting image’ of her daddy. He was proud of both of them.

Also left to cherish Jimmy’s memory are cousins Sarah Cotton, Ashley Smith, Gauge Smith and Brandon Vining.

Jimmy enjoyed the outdoors, his small family and his friends. His favorite outdoor activity was duck hunting followed by deer hunting. It is not clear if he loved fishing or more the reporting of what was biting and where they were being caught. He loved keeping track of the LSU and Saints football teams—always knowing schedules and scores. You could depend on Jimmy for the current weather conditions and future forecasts.

Out at Deerbend where he grew up, he enjoyed picking many gallons of figs and giving them away. Always helpful and willing to work, Jimmy was great help when the land was turned into a watermelon field. From daylight to dark, he found a reason to be outside even if it was sitting on the porch. Years later when he moved to the Haven, you could usually find him sitting outside. He never lost that love of being in nature.

A special thanks to the staff at the Haven where Jimmy called home for the last few years. Especially for the ones he loved to tease and to playfully engage. You all were a source of joy to him throughout the years. Judson’s mother, Jennifer gave support, attention and help which are greatly appreciated. Allen Loe, thank you for all the support and fried chicken liver lunches you shared. To Abigail Edwards, your devoted love and attention was a source of happiness. To everyone who visited and spent time with Jimmy, much gratitude is offered for your kindness.

Jimmy Strickland was a simple man who lived a simple life. He possessed a sweetness in his soul, a gentleness and mostly the willingness to laugh at basic joys. His presence will be missed and his memory cherished.
