Funeral Services for James Hopper will be held 1:00 PM, Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Tyler Duchesne officiating and interment following at Welcome Home Cemetery under the direction of Riser Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM.
James Vernon Hopper was born April 10, 1930 in Holly Ridge Louisiana to the union of his parents, James Harley Hopper and Audry Walker Hopper and passed from this life October 17, 2024 at his residence in Columbia. James was a member of Sandy Bayou Baptist Church. He was always a very hard worker. James served in the Navy, retired from International Paper, worked at Ark-La-Miss Timber, and still did his favorite job of tending to cattle. He thoroughly enjoyed farming and ranching. James was a giving and loving man. He was always smiling and joking around. He loved his kids and grandkids, watching western movies, and Patsy Cline. James played sports as a kid and would watch them on t.v. if he was in the house long enough. James's favorite down time was sitting on the porch in the sunshine drinking his coffee. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Grayson Hopper and Ray Hopper and a sister, Clotile Hopper Bondurant. Those left to cherish his memory are his daugters, Sharon May (Charlie Wood), Peggy Gentry (Craig); son, Jeff Wages; sister, Mary Alice Brown; grandchildren, Randall Duchesne (Dori), Tyler Duchesne (Alyssa), Anthony Noland, Nathan Noland (Sara), Roxie Riley (Barry), and Randall Hudson; great-grandchildren, Drake and Ella Duchesne, Harper Jo and Olivia Duchesne, Addison Noland, Nate Noland, Carter Rider, Emberlee Riley and Layla Riley.
Pallbearers will include Nathan Noland, Carter Rider, Drake Duchesne, Thorn Howard, Steve May, Danny Lively, and Mark McKee. Honorary Pallbearers are Pete Lively, Lanny Dark, Jim Parker, and William Waits.
