Guy P. Whitten, age 85 of Grayson, LA, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020, at University Medical Center New Orleans, following a lengthy illness. A private graveside service for family and friends will be held at Adams Cemetery (off Hwy 506 W.) outside of Kelly, LA, on Saturday, December 26, 2020, at 10:00 AM, with Bro. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Honorary pallbearers are his hunting and fishing buddies (too numerous to mention). Guy P. Whitten was born on July 1, 1935, in Caldwell Parish to the union of Trowley J. Whitten and Ruby Carpenter Whitten. During his lifetime he held many varied jobs, working for the US Corp of Engineers, Caldwell Police Jury as a grader machine operator, Caldwell Parish School Board as a janitor at Kelly Elementary and later as a school bus driver, following in his father and grandfather's footsteps. He could do almost anything he put his mind to. He attended Zion Hill Baptist Church outside Olla, until his health no longer allowed him to do so. He loved the outdoors, was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. He also loved to cook, especially for his hunting buddies at the camp. He was a founding member of Beaucoup Hunting Club. When his first wife was sick with cancer he stepped in as a caregiver. He will be greatly missed, but lives on in our memories. Everyone that knew him is sure to have a cherished memory and/or a story to tell. He was one of a kind. Guy was preceded in death by his parents; his loving first wife of 48 years, Glenda Gilmore Whitten; sons, Guy P. Whitten, Jr. and Dennie Guy Whitten; sisters, Johnnie Whittington and JoAnn Meredith; brother-in-law, H.R. "Sonny" Whittington; and sister-in-law, Jackie Gilmore. Those left to cherish his memory include his current wife of 10 years, Norma Whitten; daughter, Johnnie Faye McCoy; step-daughter, Melba Powe (David); granddaughter, Jessica Revels (Scott); grandsons, Mac McCoy (Vin) and J.C. McCoy; step-granddaughter, Kim Humphries; step-grandsons, Josh Humphries and Jordan Humphries (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Scarlett Revels, Jackson Revels, Roslynn McCoy, Madelyn McCoy and Whitlynn McCoy; step-great-grandchildren, Dylan Blackwell, Jenna and Wyatt Humphries; brother, Godfrey Whitten (Jean); brothers-in-law, Oliver Meredith, Charles Gilmore; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to Leslie Lakes Retirement Center of Arcadia staff for their excellent family-like care. Special thanks to all the medical staff who provided care over the years (too numerous to mention-you know who you are.) In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Adams Cemetery, Zion Hill Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
