Geneva Stump Masters

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7)”. Geneva Irene Stump Masters, was born February 7, 1933 in Vidalia, LA to the union of her parents Fay Cleveland and Lucy Blanche Sawyer Stump. She passed from this life Thursday, February 08, 2024 after a brief illness.

Geneva was an extraordinary, yet reserved lady.  To her family, she was the hub that held everything together.  Nothing she did was without thought and intent.  She was a skilled homemaker and housekeeper.  She took great pride in being the mother that God had called her and blessed her to be.  She would do anything to avoid harming or being offensive.  She always had a kind word, a caring thought, and wisdom to share.  She employed these virtues well in her offices of Mama, Mamaw, Servant of God, and formerly, Preacher’s wife.  In her later years, she and her husband enjoyed traveling in their camper and going to Blue Grass Shows.  A highlight of those years was hosting “The Pickin’ Shed” next door to their home.  Her passing is truly the end of an era.

Geneva had two great loves, and they came in this order: Jesus and Family!  If you sat with her and allowed her a moment to speak her mind, her conversation would always turn to faith.  She believed her calling was to bring her two loves together.  She prayed every day!  Always, without fail, ceaselessly, she prayed for her family.  She was the rock, stability, and our greatest source of inspiration.  Proverbs 31:10 asks, “Who can find a virtuous woman?”.  Thank God we did!

Geneva, along with her husband of 72 years, saw 5 generations of their family.  What a legacy they leave behind them!  Left to cherish her memory are three sons and one daughter (all of Columbia):  David Masters (Ronna), Terry Masters (Pam Cruse), Donald Masters (Pam Hamm), and Janice Guerrero (Danny).  She had 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other family members.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband A.B. Masters Jr., 6 brothers: Buck Stump, Gaylord Stump, Peter Stump, Fay Stump Jr., and Bill Stump, 5 sisters: Marie Clotfelter, Agnes Falgout, Elizabeth Stump, Mary Lee Gerald, and Virginia Klick, one grandson, Benjy Masters, and one great-granddaughter, Tristan Guerrero.
