Gary Wayne May

Funeral Services for Gary May will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, August 28, 2026 at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, Louisiana with Bro. Buster Duplissey officiating and Bro. Wally Reitzell assisting with interment following in Welcome Home Cemetery, in Grayson La. with visitation Thursday August 27, 2026 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 PM in the Chapel, under the direction of Riser Funeral Home.

Gary Wayne May was born April 24, 1953, in Auburn California, to the union of his parents, C.N. May Jr. and Carmen Parker May and passed from this life August 23, 2026 at his residence following a extended illness. 

Gary was an exceptional guy. He grew up hunting and fishing, farming, and even did some crop dusting. He was well known for all the things he did from being president of Dixie Youth, teaching, coaching, and assisting other coaches with all the kids throughout the years. Teaching was his passion. He enjoyed welding, teaching welding, tutoring, and just being somebody for them to look up to. Gary always made time to talk to others. If you struck up a conversation with him, you were going to be there longer than expected. Gary liked LSU sports, golfing in his spare time, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed family cook-outs, and more talking. You never saw Gary without a hat and sunglasses on the top. He had more hats than you could imagine. Out of all the things he's accomplished, nothing compared to his family and friends. They will treasure the memories made forever.

Gary was preceded in death by his father;  brother-in law, Rodney Rushing, and his step-father, James Cook. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-one years, Dianne Rushing May; his son, Chuck May (Carol); his daughter, Lisa May; his mother, Carmen Cook; brother, Larry May (Patsy); grandson, James Wayne May; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Lou Rushing; brother and sister-in-law, Jody and Kim Rushing; and two other brother-in-laws, Ed Rushing(Judy) and Tim Rushing; as well as a host of other family and friends. 

Pallbearers will include Nick Rushing, Justin Rushing, Jake Wallace, Jesse Rucker, Michael Etheridge, and Caleb Stark. Honorary pallbearers will be Vance Stark, Lucas Ledbetter, Lee Townsend, Wilbur Rucker, Jamie Adams, and Hershel Volentine.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Pilots for Patients.
