Evelyn Theresa Rucker Mills, lovingly known as “Meme” (June 17, 1954 – January 17, 2026)

Evelyn Theresa Rucker Mills, lovingly known as “Meme,” beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on January 17, 2026, at the age of 71, in Carencro, Louisiana, following an extended illness. She was a native of Columbia, Louisiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Rucker and Ruby Fisher Rucker Kirby; her stepfather, Travis Kirby; and her husband of over 50 years, Donnie “Dumplin” Mills—affectionately known as Pawpaw Dump. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Molly Wyant and husband Abe; her sons Roy “Beau” Mills and wife Diana, and Jeffery Mills; her grandchildren Jesse Hendrix, Gregory Wyant and wife Samantha, Brooke Scribber and husband Oscar, and Augustus Mills and wife Cari; her great-grandchildren Ayden Wyant, Collin Wyant, Colter Scribber, Emmalyn Mills, and Lindy Mills; her sisters JoeRenda Williams and husband Donnie, and LaDean Harris and husband Donnie; her brothers Jeff Rucker and wife Jennifer, and Mike Rucker and wife Lynn; her former daughter-in-law Trena Honeycutt, who remained a cherished part of the family; as well as extended family, including a host of nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

Theresa was a woman of quiet strength, deep generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family. She dedicated her life to raising her three children and supporting her husband, who worked offshore for over five decades. She was the heart of the household—an immaculate housekeeper who could turn even a cardboard box into a warm and welcoming home.

Theresa also took great pride in her yard, which she transformed into a vibrant, blooming sanctuary. With a natural eye for beauty, she filled it with flowers that brought joy to all who passed by. Her landscaping was a labor of love and a reflection of her creativity and care.

She lived to spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would generously do anything for anybody. Meme was a tough lady who never complained. She loved to shop and was always on the hunt for the perfect piece to brighten a room or bring joy to someone she loved. She especially cherished family vacations, always bringing laughter and joy that made them unforgettable for everyone. Her strength, kindness, and selflessness left a lasting mark on everyone who knew her.

Theresa’s legacy of love, resilience, and beauty will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of loving her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will continue to bloom in every flower she planted, every memory she shaped, and every heart she held.

A celebration of Theresa’s life will be hosted by Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, LA, on Wednesday, January 28th, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend. All who knew and loved her are warmly invited to share a memory or story in her honor. Brother Rod Shipp, a dear friend of the family, will offer closing words in her memory.
