Graveside funeral services for Esbon Otis Brown age 93 of Columbia will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday May 15, 2024 at the Starnes-Dulaney Cemetery at Sikes, LA under direction of Riser & Son Funeral Home of Columbia. Visitation will be on Tuesday May 14, 2024 at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Mr. Otis Brown was born at home in Hebert, Louisiana on the 20th of November 1930. He was the youngest child of Viola Cupples Brown and Mack Brown. He passed from this life on the 11th of May 2024 at his home.
Mr. Otis helped work the family cotton farm until his enlistment in the Navy on January 3, 1950, where he served for 4 years. He was among the crew that took the USS Missouri to be decommissioned and served aboard the USS Macon. When he came home, he married the love of his life Miss Bonnie Ree Dulaney on January 14, 1955. They had two daughters. He worked several different jobs before they purchased and operated a Gulf Station on the corner of Trenton St. and Pine St. in West Monroe, Louisiana. Eventually, he opened Brown Starter and Generator at his home in Hebert, Louisiana before relocating to Jena, Louisiana. He sold the business in the 1990’s, and opened and sold it two more times before retiring in the early 2000’s.
Mr. Otis loved to fish and hunt. He maintained a garden right up to the end of his life. He loved sharing his produce and advice. He had a story for every occasion.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and the love of his life Mrs. Bonnie Dulaney Brown.
Those left to cherish his memories are his daughters Bonnie Ann “Missy” Brown Conerly (James) of Shreveport, La and ReNeau Brown Cook (Sammy) of College Station, Tx; his granddaughters Ann Marie Jackson Caraway (Charles) of Columbia , Glenda Faye Jackson Craft (Lee) of Grayson, Linda Sue Jackson Mathews (Shane) of West Monroe, and Brandy Nicole Cook Brown (Nathan) of College Station, Tx; great-grandchildren Cristopher Caraway, Cordel Craft, Savanah Mathews, Harley Caraway, Acey Craft, Dustin Mathews, and Alexandra Nicole Brown; great-great-grandchildren April Webber and Maverick Webber; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers are Cordel Craft, Acey Craft, Dustin Mathews, Josh Webber, Willis Davis, and Ray Braddock. Honorary pallbearers are Garland Grant, Louis Hodges, and Mark Scott.
