Ellen Bernelle Faulk Moseley was born October 12, 1936, in Sikes, LA, to the union of her parents, Alcie Jasper Faulk and Nancy Louella Hatten Faulk. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 5, 2025, at her home in Columbia. One of eleven children born to sharecropper parents, she learned the meaning of hard work at an early age. When she was younger she loved attending Hebert Methodist Church and Hebert Church of God. Ellen loved Christmas and time spent with her family. She loved working in her beautiful yard but in the past twenty years, after losing her husband the weekend of Hurricane Katrina, her health began to fail and she had to give up her yard work. The one thing she clung to that brought her great joy was music. She loved to sing and music was the absolute in her life. As a country music fan, she always kept her radio on K104. She had it on 24 hours a day, seven days a week. She loved listening to the K104 crew and the late John Reynolds. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy Joe Moseley; brothers, Jay Faulk and Brent Faulk; sisters, Nellie Ainsworth and Estelle Brown; brothers-in-law: Glenn Gosdin, Hugh Ainsworth, and John Brown; and special nephew, Richard Jay Faulk.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Billy Wayne Moseley and Jerry L. Moseley (Brenda), all of Columbia; former daughter-in-law, Theresa Oliveaux, brothers: Douglas Faulk of Rocky Branch, Bennie Ray Faulk and Elvis Faulk (Debra) all of West Monroe; sisters: Lessie Mae Gosdin of Swartz, Lou Ann Triplett (Mark) and Linda Epstein all of West Monroe; grandchildren: Jonathan Dean Moseley (Kelly), Christa Anne Womeldurf (Steven), and Morgan Westbrooks; great-grandchildren: Eli Faucett, Tyler Faucett, and Karlee Moseley; special niece, Lori Burgin, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
Ellen was loved by so many and the special words below convey a message of who she was and how she loved her family.
"Everyone needs an auntie like our beloved Aunt Ellen. She showed her love for all of us children, nieces, nephews, cousins, grandbabies in many ways. She lovingly pieced and hand sewed beautiful quilts for her siblings, friends, neighbors, nieces, nephews and grandbabies. She grew beautiful plants with her amazing green thumb and more than once we were blessed to enjoy a canned jar of her purple hull peas or sweet creamed corn. She could make a King’s feast from those famous smothered potatoes served with cornbread and butter. She was an amazing cook but something tells me it was her precious company that made every shared meal so memorable.
Ellen proudly displayed all our baby pictures up on her livingroom walls. She kept every letter or card anyone sent her. Her sentimental heart had such a capacity to love. She made everyone feel welcome, noticed, and treasured. It always felt like home whenever we would visit her. For us, her grieving family, there was nothing finer than sitting on her porch swing under the carport sipping on iced tea and talking about her garden or days gone by.
Ellen had the most calm demeanor and genteel southern drawl. She could make the word cornbread have at least 4 syllables. She was a joy. And her sense of humor was unmatched. It would catch you off guard and she had that little sparkle in her eye that would have you slapping your leg and trying to catch your breath. In one word: Bazinga!
I am only one of her many loved ones. My Dad was her baby brother and he lovingly chose to give me her name at birth. I have been proud to be called Lori Ellen my entire 57 years. Aunt Ellen passed away on my birthday, in fact. I can only imagine the joyous reunion she had with her husband Billy Joe, brother Brent, my dad Jay, her sisters Nellie, Estelle and her mother and father. Surely there to greet her was her nephew, my brother, Richard who passed away 2 years ago. Ellen and Billy Joe had a darling little house in rural Louisiana. The siding was cypress and the front door was screened. I slammed that thing shut more than 100 times in my life and never once did she fuss at me for it. All of my cousins can plead guilty to that I am sure. She just loved us anyway.
I drove all the way from Montana to Louisiana to introduce her to my newborn daughter in 1996. She was as proud as I was to be holding her great niece Olivia. Almost as proud as she was when her cherished Jonathan and Christa were born. I don’t know of any other grandmother who loved her grand darlin’s like Ellen loved those two babies!
Ellen remembered everyone’s birthday. She had umpteen nieces and nephews and we all received a hand written card each year. And a Christmas card, too. Ellen was thoughtful, she was special. She was loved. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her."
Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Gilmore, Anita Fillmore, Steve Womeldurf, Chuck Clack, Daniel Ferguson, Todd Parker, and Mike Parker.
