Edith LaRue Gilliam

Funeral services for Edith LaRue Gilliam will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 15, 2026, at the chapel of Riser and Son Funeral Home in Olla, Louisiana, with Bro.Shad Tibbs officiating and Bro. Rickey Nugent assisting. Interment will follow at Chickasaw Cemetery, Olla, LA. There will be a visitation for family and friends on Sunday, June 14, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home and again on Monday from 12:00 PM until time of service at 2:00 PM.

LaRue was born in Olla, Louisiana, on June 5, 1933, to the union of her parents, Earl Nugent and Maurine Hutson Nugent. She passed away peacefully at home on June 12, 2026, with her son by her side. LaRue was a beautician for many years but later worked in home health. She loved to cook for her family, which they loved because she was an excellent cook. She enjoyed working in the yard, raising flowers and watching QVC. She loved animals and had two dogs, Missy and Dixie, but her favorite was her cat, Peaches. LaRue had a heart of gold. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and caring mother-in-law. She was greatly loved and will be forever missed by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Alton Gilliam; her sister, Earline Chapman; and her brother, E. W. Nugent. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Wayne Gilliam and his wife, Nakisha; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Knapp, Rickey Nugent, Dale McCartney, Mike Gilliam, Charley Nugent, and Scott Cockerham. Honorary pallbearers are Randy Nugent and Al Cassels.
