Services for Cecil Earl Varnell, age 73 of Columbia, will be 10 AM Monday, August 18, 2008 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Tommy Nelson and Bro. Chuck Stapleton officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Columbia. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5 PM to 9 PM. Mr. Earl Varnell was born in Columbia on July 14, 1935 to the union of Homer Sr. and Tommie Mae Cryer Varnell and passed away Saturday, August 16, 2008 at his residence. He was the owner and operator of Delk Meat Processing and attended Cross Roads Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Lucille Moore Varnell, two sons; Terry Joe Varnell and Johnny Varnell, two brothers; Homer Varnell Jr. and Russell Varnell and great grandchild, Chance Mc Donald. Survivors include is wife of 48 years, Linda Pauley Varnell, three sons; David Varnell and his wife, Tricia of Grayson, Danny Varnell and Earnest Varnell both of Columbia, three daughters; Debbie Jackson and her husband, Bob of Pinegrove, Pam Guffey and her husband, Jerry of West Monroe, Reba Etheridge and her husband, James of Kelly, three sisters; Patsy Clark and her husband, Clarence, Yvonne Jordan and her husband, Joe B. and Shirley Worsham and her husband, Bill all of Winnfield, eleven grandchildren; Joey Varnell, Johnathan Varnell, Cody Varnell, Michael Etheridge, Chris Etheridge, TJ Buckley, Paul "Spanky" Black, Ashley Strickland, Brandy McDonald, Sissi McLaughlin and Joy May and twelve great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Clarence Clark, Heath Volentine, Michael Etheridge, Joey Varnell, Johnathan Varnell, TJ Buckley, Jerry Guffey and Bob Jackson. Honorary pallbearer is Marshall Tingle.
