Dottie Mae Gibson

October 22, 1941 — December 14, 2023

Funeral services for Dottie Mae Gibson, age 82 of Columbia, will be held Sunday, December 17, 2023, at 2 PM, from the chapel of Riser and Son Funeral Home, Columbia, LA with Bro. Shane Duke officiating. Interment will follow at Taylor's Chapel Cemetery, Summerville, LA. A visitation will be held Sunday prior to the service from noon until 2 PM at the funeral home.

Dottie Mae Duke Gibson was born October 22, 1941, in Kelly, LA, to the union of her parents, Baker Cicero Duke and Bernettie Barber Duke, and she passed peacefully to her heavenly home December 14, 2023, at Citizens Medical Center in Columbia. Dottie was very independent and believed in doing things herself. There was nothing she couldn't accomplish when she set her mind to a task. She loved being outdoors. Until recently she mowed her own yard, worked in her flower beds, and had a garden. She enjoyed watching the birds that would come to her garden, especially the hummingbirds and blue birds. As Dottie aged, she preferred using a 4-wheeler as her mode of transportation around her place. She would hop on and head out to do whatever needed doing, especially if that was visiting her daughter next door. She had a puppy, Molly, who was her furbaby that she just loved. She was a homemaker for most of her life but after losing her husband she began working at Citizens Progressive Bank as a night processor. She was a devoted member of Rosefield Baptist Church until her health prevented her from attending. Dottie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Julius Elwin "Hoot" Gibson; sister, Ollie Faye Howell; and brother, Clifford Ray Duke.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Dottie Gibson Allday (Jimmy Bennett); sisters, Mary Ann Freeman and Willie Shields; granddaughter, Lindsay Allday; her furbaby, "Molly"; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
