Mr. Gregory passed away at the home of his daughter in Farmerville surrounded by his immediate family. Don was born February 12, 1940 and was one of 9 children born to the union of the late Jack D & Elma Coates Gregory. Don is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Mary Brown Gregory who was the love of his life. Don had known Mary since she was a young girl living up town in Columbia. He would ride his pony by her house and visit with Mary if she was out playing in her yard. He fell in love with that little girl and knew that he would marry her one day. In Don’s early years as a young married man he worked on a tug boat, for the Levee Board and for the LA Dept of Highways as it was called then. Don loved his family and the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting trips to Colorado with his friends, Binus Duke, Jerry Duke, Hill Durham and Waymon Calhoun. He was best known for owning Capps Inn located at the intersection of Hwy 165 & Hwy 4. He started working there at the young age of twelve. When his Uncle Olan Coates wanted to retire, he gave Don the opportunity to buy Capps Inn from him and he did. Don loved serving the public thru food service and had many, many friends. He was best known for his barbeque and his famous barbeque sauce he made from scratch. He enjoyed his customers and wanted to make sure they were happy with their meal. After almost 20 years in business, he and Mary sold Capps and took some much needed time off. They eventually started another business known as Don’s Capps. He continued to sell his barbeque and made his famous sauce. He just done what he dearly loved and that was serving the public. He always thought a lot of others in need. He would cook and take food to families that needed something to eat and would take food to those that were celebrating the lives of those they had lost. Another pastime that Don enjoyed was telling the history of the Gregory family. With seven other brothers and one sister there were a lot of stories. They raised cattle, horses, swine and crops. He learned responsibility at a very young age. All the boys held part-time jobs as well as worked on the farm early on. When Don worked at Capps as a young boy, he always gave this check to his mother to help with their family needs and kept his tip money for his own.
Don lived for 86 years. He leaves behind 2 daughters. Beverly Gregory Albritton (Dennis) and Deanna Gregory Evans. Two grandsons, Gary Albritton & Jarred Evans. Two great-grandsons, Ryder Albritton and Amos Slade Evans.
Please join us to celebrate the life of Don with his family as he has chose cremation.
