Chad Everett Nelson was born December 17, 1976, in Monroe, LA, to the union of his parents, Earl Nelson and Kathryn Sue “Susie” Claunch Nelson, and he passed from this life August 19, 2026, at Alexandria, LA.
Chad was a country boy who loved spending time outdoors with his cousins, friends, and family. He was extremely close to his cousin Erin growing up. He enjoyed riding horses, hunting and fishing. As a child and teenager, Chad was able to travel with his family and see many places in our great country. During his high school junior year he decided to follow his older brother David and join the Louisiana Army National Guard where they served our state and country along side each other. He would later go on to work as a tankerman for Canal Barge Company where he traveled the Mississippi River and all its tributaries. In April of 2008, his life was changed forever when he was involved in a car accident leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. He lived out most of the rest of his life at home living next to his parents with his Feist dog, Red. He loved being outside in his electric wheelchair with Red by his side. Most of his life, he ran away from the Lord always thinking of himself as a black sheep. Well, Jesus kept chasing after that black sheep, and today we take great comfort in knowing that he recently surrendered his life to Jesus before passing away in his sleep at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria after an extended illness. Even though he was hard to love at times, deep down, Chad had a loving and giving heart. Jesus never stopped loving him and neither did we.
Chad was preceded in death by his mother; his maternal grandparents, Charles Lavelle and Dorothy Claunch; paternal grandparents, Clifton and Eula Nelson.
Those left to cherish his memory are his father, Earl Nelson; his brother, David Nelson (Jamie); two nieces, Emory Nelson and Madi Nelson; his best cousin, Erin Cubbit; as well as a host of family and friends.
