Alice R. Gates Riser

Graveside funeral services for Alice Ruth Gates Riser, age 77 of Grayson, Louisiana, will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Cedar Grove Memorial Cemetery, Grayson, Louisiana. with Pastor Bonnie Turner officiating. The family will receive visitors at the chapel of Riser and Son Funeral Home, Columbia, LA, on Friday, November 4, 2022, from 5 PM until 8 PM.

Alice Ruth Gates Riser was born, March 4, 1945, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to her parents, Finis Gates, Sr. and Vertie Louise Brown Gates, and she passed from this life October 27, 2022, in Monroe, Louisiana after an extended illness. Alice was an active and devoted member of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Grayson before her health prevented her from attending. She served many roles in her life but the role of loving daughter and sister, devoted wife and mother, and adoring grandmother were the most important to her. She especially treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren. Alice enjoyed traveling. She was retired from AT&T where she was a Maintenance Administrator. Alice is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Vernell Riser I, her siblings: Sadie Evans, Finis Gates, Jr., and Marion Maxine Gates, and loving daughter Joyce Burns.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons: Vernell Riser II (Nicki) of Monroe, LA and Jarrell Riser (Demetria) of Tallahassee, FL; loving daughters: LaZanda Riser of Milwaukee, WI, Yolanda Brown (Mario) of League City, TX, April Morgan of Monroe, LA and Ashley Lewis of Baltimore, MD; sister, LaVerne Maddox of Chicago, IL; fourteen beloved grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mathel Conner, Cedric Harrell I, Cedric Harrell II, Dominic Hawkins, Antonio Riser, and Deante' Riser. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Engl, Jimmy Fisher, Frank Gates, Kenneth Maddox, Andy Riser, and Jesse Riser.

The Family of Mrs. Alice Ruth Riser would like to sincerely say Thank You for the cards, flowers and kind expressions of sympathy shown following her passing. Your support has been a great comfort to all of the family and will forever be remembered. We would also like to thank Louisiana Hospice and Pallative Care with an extended Thank You to Nurse Jackie and Nurse Assistant Angela.
