A Mass of Christian Burial for Adrian Martinez "Chavez" Gonzalez, age 15, of Columbia, will be held at 12 Noon Wednesday at the St. Johns Roman Catholic Church in Columbia with Father Rigoberto Betancurp officiating. Interment will follow in the Monroe Memorial Park in Monroe with services under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Adrian was born on July 24, 1994 at Shreveport, LA and passed from this life on Sunday October 4, 2009 at his residence following a brief illness. Although Adrian suffered from Muscular Dystrophy he never let it get him down. He recently participated in G.U.M.B.O. games receiving several awards. Adrian was a bright and caring person and was always thinking of others before himself. Some of his happiest times were spent playing his video games and going on vacation to Mexico. Adrian was an eighth grade student at Caldwell Parish Junior High School. Survivors include: His father: Audius "Charingo" Gonzalez Negrete, brother: Luis Raul Gonzalez, one sister: Macy Lane Elizabeth Parker, grandparents: Atanacio Gonzalez Cervantes and Gloria Negrete DeAnda de Gonzalez of San Miguel de Allende Guanajuato, Mexico; Uncles Juan Luis Gonzalez of Monroe,La., Eutimio Gonzalez of Ruston,LA , Jose Gonzalez of Winnsboro, and a host of family and friends here and in Mexico. Serving as pallbearers will be Maxie Atkins, Octavio Gonzalez, Fernando Hernandez, Cedillo Vasquez, Erasto Solis, and Randy Parker. Honorary pallbearers include Juan Luis Gonzalez, Eutimio Gonzalez, Jose Gonzalez, Fortino Aldama, Valtazar Moya, and John Carraway. In lieu of flowers, any planned memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
